And Our Flag Was Still There

Did you ever wonder what the actual colors and symbols of our flag stand for? I think it safe to say that most people are aware there is one star for each state. But why a star rather than a polka-dot or a triangle? In my brief research on the subject I found this statement:

"The star is a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial.”

The fifty stars stand on a blue square of fabric. The blue represents the color of the Chief and signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice.

The stripes, or the pales (to be technical) are red and white. Red represents hardiness and valor. White signifies purity and innocence.

Whether you know the history or not, the United States Flag is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. This great country has stood for justice and equality since its inception. There truly is no other nation on the planet that affords so much opportunity, so many choices and such incredible freedom. Those of us who have been citizens our entire lives can’t fathom any other way to live. Over the decades many of our young men and women have fought to keep our ideals and truths intact. I, for one, am grateful that each morning our flag, Old Glory, is still there.
